One of the most representative and iconic buildings on the Madrid skyline is the one that presides over the Plaza de España, and this summer it reopened its doors, once again becoming the magnificent hotels that once was and after remaining more than 10 years in disuse, thanks to the Riu hotel chain.
The hotel has 27 floors, 6 elevators, 585 rooms and all kinds of luxury facilities, such as a swimming pool, gym, restaurants, bars and magnificent terraces, as well as luxury finishes. Imposing over time, it has always remained majestic and once again gives life to the capital, something that in De Salas we celebrated.
What was once one of the most visited accommodations by aristocrats and celebrities in the city of Madrid, has data and curiosities that the communication department itself has revealed to us to the delight of our friends and clients. For example, the 13th floor has been omitted. “It happens in many buildings, hotels, even on airplanes. “We wanted to maintain that nod to superstition.”
The building is the work of the brothers Otamendi, was inaugurated in 1953, and has served as a hotel as well as offices. For many years, it has been the tallest in the city of Madrid, and great Hollywood stars of the 60s as well as national artists stayed there. Today, it is the eighth tallest building and an example of the neo-baroque style of XNUMXth century architecture.
To maintain the original essence, historical and heritage elements have been respected, rehabilitating them and offering them a new life, such as the original entrance doors to the building, the bas-reliefs, or the railings of the stairs. Others have been redistributed, offering them a privileged place in the hotel, such as the old elevator button panel, integrated into the decoration, or an old elevator, restored and converted into a telephone booth.
"The hotels It is designed for the enjoyment of our guests but also of all Madrid residents and tourists who visit the city. With that idea in mind, the 26th and 27th floors have been developed as separate bars, one of them closed and the other open, with views of the city of Madrid. The “De Madrid al cielo” bar is a covered space with modern decoration and touches of the Movida Madrileña.
“The sky bar on the 27th floor, “360º”, so named because it literally offers 360º views of the city of Madrid, has a spectacular glass walkway more than 100 meters above the ground, which has united two areas that “Previously they were separated to ensure that the terrace could go completely around.”
Lovers of properties with flavor and history, we celebrate that our city once again has one of the most beautiful properties that the capital offers and recovers its lost shine.
