La culture is once again the protagonist in this recently released by the European Capitals of Culture, three in this case. Novi Sad in Serbia, Kaunas in Lithuania and Esch-Sur_Alzette in Luxembourg, have been the cities chosen and in De Salas We wanted to know a little about them and what they are preparing for this mandate.
Novi Sad It is the first city that will tell us about culture. It is located in the north of Serbia, bathed by the Danube and has the oldest theater in the country. Despite having suffered a lot during the bombings in the Balkan War, it is worth visiting, for example, the Petrovaradin Fortress.
Its capital status revolves around the slogan “Build bridges”, based in turn on four concepts: Rainbow, which will be celebrations to emphasize the intercultural identity of Novi Sad, migrations and their positive consequences; Libertad; Care, divided into the Peace Fortress to promote dialogue and peace and the Danube River, workshops to make the history of this river known. And finally Hope, focused on turning the city into a Cultural Kaleidoscope with exhibitions on architecturea, performing arts, visual arts, literature and applied arts.
The second of the cities of the culture will Kaunas, in Lithuania, which was the country's first capital and was founded in the 14th century. Holds the title of being one of the commercial ports most important of the Baltic countries, despite having no sea. Although it is not a city as monumental as others, it is one of the most modern and active in its cultural life.
Its program is based on several branches dedicated especially to young people, seeking to help them create the city where they would like to live and taking into account elements such as street dancing, theater, accessible but also betting on traditions.
Esch-Sur Alzette in Luxembourg, is the third European Capital of the Culture. It is a city that has a multicultural population, with more than 110 different nationalities, and is a symbol of the steel industry. The city masterfully converted some of its most historic places, such as the Esch-Belval district, which incorporates the former blast furnaces in the heart of a very modern, lively and busy district.
The events are collected under the name of Festival Remix, which proposes a series of workshops, workshops and events in which we will talk about the city, its talents or its music, with the aim of meeting new people, creating together and rethinking the region. On February 26, 2022, the Remix Opening will take place, a ceremony that will take place in various parts of the city with DJ sets, dance exhibitions, light installations, etc.
La culture knows no limits, and in De Salas We are glad that we can once again enjoy, with all the necessary health precautions, the possibility of getting to know and traveling the three capitals that Europe has chosen to promote culture.
