On April 15, 2019, Our Lady suffered a devastating fire that filled us with sadness and which we also realized here in our blog. Today, a year and a half later, we have learned about the latest project presented by a studio from architecture and we thought it would be interesting for our clients and friends to know what ideas have been proposed so far. Because here we all value and history.
Last July, the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced that the reconstruction of the damaged structures of Our Lady It would be carried out maintaining the previous appearance and without modern versions, which has not discouraged architecture studios from presenting all types of proposals.
The last one is the one that has fallen into our hands and for which our curiosity has been awakened and, surely, that of our readers. Comes from the Dutch studio Trnsfrm and proposes a design with large iridescent stained glass windows that fill this architectural heritage with color and fantasy. Far from posing a criticism, this exercise of creativity has been carried out with no other intention than to explore an alternative solution, even if it is never carried out.
But there have been several that were seen. The study proposal Fuksas It combined contemporary technology with respect for the original character of the roof structure and the spire so characteristic of Our Lady, and consisted of a tall pinnacle built of crystal glass Baccarat which, like the roof, can be illuminated at night, so that it will be flooded with light, turning the cathedral into a very special lighthouse.
The French designer's proposal Mathieu Lehanneur opted to completely renew the image of the cathedral without references to the 19th century structure and introducing a large golden flame into its design, combining craftsmanship, technology, architecture and design.
The French study Vizum Atelier He proposed a revival of tragedy, recovering the spirit that marked the construction of cathedrals in the Gothic era: reaching for heaven. Just as Le Duc tried in Our Lady, have proposed a very light and very tall structure that connects the sky with the earth.
Kiss The Architect is an architecture studio founded by the Cypriot architect Dakis Panayiotou and whose proposal is a previous design, titled A Foolish Folly, which he would install at the top of the cathedral of Our Lady a surreal fantasy world with a ball structure around a ladder.
The French David Deroo opted to maintain the original aesthetics but introducing contemporary materials and technologies. Reflecting on the need for the reconstruction project to respect the heritage and beauty of the cathedral, his proposal moves between the conservative and the contemporary.
With a backlit ceiling, new stained glass windows, pinnacles or golden flames, Our Lady It left a void in the landscape of Paris but no matter what form the final project takes, it will always be the Cathedral, with capital letters, for those of us who love art and architecture. And in De Salas we are a lot. That is why we invite you to give us your opinion, sending us your comments and telling us the proposal you prefer, if you were the one who could decide which is the best project.
