When last year the PGA Tour, the main North American professional golf circuit, presented its tournament calendar for this season, experts realized that Latin America was taking on a very relevant role in the development of this sport.
Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic have gone from being a privileged vacation destination, with golf included in their wide and luxurious offer of activities to be carried out in their wonderful hotel complexes, to becoming, in their own right, home to some of the most important tournaments on the professional golf circuit.
The first of the appointments will be the Puerto Rico Open Golf, from February 18 to 24, in the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club, and is considered the most fun of the PGA Tour tournaments, thanks to the combination of excellent golf, an incredible beachfront setting, live entertainment and, above all, the warm hospitality of Puerto Ricans.
Since 2008, it has become an unparalleled setting that showcases the wonders of the island while providing a magnificent opportunity for businesses to grow. Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChemabeau and Chesson Hadley are some of the names that have passed through this tournament.
Coinciding with the dates, the World Golf Championship in Mexico City, from February 21 to 24. The Chapultepec Golf Club will welcome the best players in the world again, and its holes will once again vibrate with the masterstrokes of some of the greatest such as Phil Mickelson, the last winner of the tournament, Dustin Johnson or Tiger Woods.
The other great Mexican event is the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which will celebrate its twelfth year in the coastal area of Playa del Carmen. Pioneering event of the PGA Tour in Mexico, it is held at the El Camaleón Golf Club, and is recognized as a global leader in the development of sustainable luxury resorts. Although it is true that it is celebrated at the end of the year, in November, it should be taken into account when planning a possible visit to the Aztec country.
But in between we have the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, in the Dominican Republic, at the Puntacana Resort & Club, headquarters of the second edition of the PGA Tour tournament in this Caribbean country, from March 25 to 31. More than 130 professionals will compete in the championship, where good weather and luxury facilities are more than guaranteed.
As lovers of this sport, and taking advantage of the fact that the cold continues to make an appearance, what better than to recover from the Christmas holidays with a trip to a warm place where you can also enjoy golf. Happy new year to all our clients and friends.
